Luis Vargas

Not one, not two, but three women misidentified Luis Vargas as the man who had raped them. All three cases involved similar facts: Latina women approached at bus stops in the early morning hours in Los Angeles by a Latino man with a teardrop tattoo.  The man asked for directions and then sexually assaulted the victims.  However, the same man attacked many other women, some while Luis was serving time in prison, one while he was on trial and in jail.

 

The California Innocence Project was able to use DNA to link the crimes Luis was convicted of with crimes he could not have committed and Luis was exonerated after spending 20 years in prison for a crime he did not commit.  For more information about Luis’s case go to: https://californiainnocenceproject.org/read-their-stories/luis-vargas/
